Work Study Positions at BYCAV
BYCAV is a youth based organization that has a long term commitment to Black youth in Toronto in the areas of economic opportunities and youth empowerment. BYCAV working in partnership with the (Toronto Community Housing Corporation) TCHC and other community partners plans to organize two youth summits over the next year with the goal of being able to provide youth with opportunities for building sustainable futures for themselves, their families, their communities and their entire city.
The office directors will be responsible for assisting the BYCAV Coordinator in the overall administration and planning of BYCAV summits, outreach activities, and the administration of the BYCAV office.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in coordination and outreach efforts of BYCAV under direction of the Steering Committee and/or BYCAV Coordinator.
- Support BYCAV Coordinator in administrative duties required for ongoing BYCAV projects.
- Assist with meeting preparation, which would include agenda creation and minute taking at weekly or monthly meetings.
- Complete general office administrative responsibilities and hours at the BYCAV office, in the absence of the BYCAV Coordinator.
- Assist in the maintenance of the BYCAV website.
- Participate in off site activities in various communities on BYCAV’s behalf when necessary.
- Assist BYCAV Coordinator with basic financial and administrative record keeping.
- Help to maintain a tidy, organized and efficient office space.
- Attend training and orientation sessions as prescribed by the Coordinator.
- Attend summit planning and workshop planning meetings.
Qualifications:
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Relevant computer skills (i.e. Excel, Internet research, Presentation Creation) to assist in administrative responsibilities.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills (i.e. Microsoft Word).
- Comfortable in diverse and changing work environments and is able to adapt and be flexible when required.
- Interest and experience working for/with at-risk youth, youth from diverse backgrounds and/or youth living in TCHC communities.
- Confidence in speaking and strong presentation skills.
Are you Work Study eligible? To participate in the Work Study program, you MUST have qualified for provincial financial assistance from the Ontario Student Assistance Program for 2008/-09 and be registered in at least 60% of a full course load at the University of Toronto
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- $10 per hour, 0-12 hours per week
- September 2008-April 2009 (some flexibility in start and end dates)
- Must be eligible for the work study program
